Unfortunately, sharing the news is where it ends for me it’s Windows only. Everything sounds good about Tessla SE MkII, and I’d love to try it out and hear how it deals with some harsh vocals with its AIR control.

On the surface, the update looks very different with a simple, modern GUI. The developer has improved the circuit modeling, which means more detailed and realistic responses from the plugin. Under the hood, it seems the new release is more sophisticated than its predecessor. Especially when we, musicians, can be such a fickle bunch, and the divide between garbage and greatness is often wafer-thin. Sometimes we try so hard to make digital sound analog that we end up creating an all too obvious stereotype, and nothing is less cool than sounding like you’re trying too hard. The tagline for Tessla SE mkII is “All the analog goodness in subtle doses,” and I like that outlook. Tessla SE MkII isn’t intended to be completely transparent and will color your sound to some extent, but it’s more about enhancing what’s already there rather than distinctly changing it. It delivers subtle saturation and widening while adding depth to your mix. We don’t need to drive the saturation to the breaking point to get that feeling, and that’s what Tessla SE MkII is all about. Those are pretty common buzzwords, but they are fitting, nonetheless. There is a certain feeling that comes with analog that’s warmer and more organic than digital. The updated edition of Tessla SE MkII appears to stay true to the original goal, which was to bring the core qualities of analog to your digital workflow in a subtle way. You will need to sign up for a free Bom Shanka Machines user account to download your copy of the occularScope plugin. It’s a dual-mode filter with a drive control. By the way, Bom Shanka Machines is offering another freeware plugin called plasticityFilter. The side-chain signal can be displayed as an overlay, or it can be added to the primary input signal. There are two color schemes available by default (dark and light), but the user can fully customize the plugin’s colors to their liking.Īnother useful feature is occularScope’s side-chain input. The Freeze button will display a snapshot of the signal until the real-time mode is turned back on. The display is freely resizable, and it can show the audio signal as a line or as a filled waveform. The display is synchronized with the digital audio workstation, so the visual data is easy to analyze.

The oscilloscope can be set to display either a single beat or a full bar. Or, you can load occularScope on a bus track and analyze how the kick and the bass guitar are interacting with each other. For example, you can zoom in on a particular kick drum and watch how your compressor shapes the kick’s attack transient and the body. This is useful for pinpointing a specific part of the audio track and monitoring how its waveform is affected by other plugins in real-time.
